Jemma Muller


Jemma Muller is a Junior Associate at Primerio. She has assisted the team in various significant matters and has regulatory and commercial law practice experience pertaining to merger control notifications across several African countries and regional blocs including Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Eswatini and COMESA. Jemma also has practical experience in white collar crime, competition (both from a compliance and regulatory perspective as well as from a competition law violation perspective), anti-bribery and corruption in South Africa. Jemma has been published in the Concurrences e-Competition Bulletin, featured in your weekly digest and Competition Policy International.

Significant Matters

Jemma formed part of the team which:

  • Advised a consortium of banks in relation to the recovery of proceeds following the Steinhoff fraud - which is among the largest civil claims in South Africa's history;
  • Represented Oryx Energies before the Competition Tribunal in relation to the cylinder deposit investigation;
  • Obtained merger control approval from the Nigerian Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, which was one of the first merger control approvals under Nigeria's newly established merger control regime;
  • Successfully advised Premier FMCG in obtaining merger approval in relation to its acquisition of Mr Sweet from Lodestone Brands in South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia and Botswana;
  • Advised an international company in relation to the Competition authorities investigation of alleged abuse of dominance in the beer sector;
  • Assisted a fibre company in relation to several proceedings before the South African competition authorities;
  • Counselled a construction company in what is understood to be the largest money-laundering scam in South African history;
  • Assisted various clients in relation to the South African competition authorities' investigation into the automotive parts sector;
  • Drafting submissions on behalf of a client to the Competition Commission of South Africa in relation to the Commission's investigation of the Fresh Produce Market;
  • Drafting a merger control notification to the South African Competition Commission for Concorde Bidco Limited in its acquisition of CDK Global Holdings (UK) Limited which was approved without conditions;
  • Assisted an international non-profit organisation repatriate funds from fraudulent wire transfers;
  • Assisted Eris Properties with project development advice in Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa;
  • Currently representing Takata Corporation before the Competition Tribunal in relation to price fixing and market allocation complaint referrals;
  • Drafting merger control notifications to the COMESA Competition Commission on behalf of Lone Star Funds in its acquisition of Manuchar NV; and
  • Assisted a chemicals company in relation to competition law matters in Ethiopia.
